20th C Sino-Tibetan Amitayus Mineral Pigment with Gold Gilt
[045-62164]
$295.00

Description
20th C Sino-Tibetan Amitayus Distemper on Cloth with Gold Gilt

Thangka depicting The Buddha of Eternal Life as the central figure -- surrounded by two, who are in sum, known as the "se Lha Nam Sum," the Three Long-life Deities. Each can be practiced individually however many prayers and praises include all three. Within a given composition, the principal personage invariably occupies the center stage, while acolytes and attendants are reduced in size to further emphasize the majesty of the central figure.

Amitayus Tibetan: Tse pag me "...with a body the color of coral or the rising sun, very red and shining forth with various colored rays of light; one face, two hands, and with two long eyes glancing with compassion on beings, gazing on the entirety of migrators, and a smiling face..." - Zhuchen Tsultrim Rinchen (1697-1769).

A range of value for a piece of this type is underscored by its decoration with gold gilding -- suggestive of superior quality when compared to thangkas that are otherwise, common in the marketplace.
