The all seeing lord with four hands and legs crossed, right over left, in vajra posture, he is positioned in a surround adorned with lotus blossoms of red and blue.
One translation of the name Avalokiteshvara is read, "the lord who looks upon the world with compassion." According to the "Lotus Sutra," the Historical Buddha offers that if a suffering being hears the name of Avalokiteshvara and earnestly calls out -- the Bodhisattva will hear them and relieve that being from his suffering.
