14/15 C. Pair of Carved Tibetan Manuscript Covers

The central rectangular, recessed section is carved, in relief, with four niches containing seated deities, which are surrounded by a border decorated in low relief with a frieze of beading, beneath a border of stylized flames. The front side of each is lacquered and the back is polychromed.

Condition
Age appropriate wear including surface abrasions and patina with mild losses to wood on the edges and corners. One large repair to carving. Some scratches and chips to polychrome finish on back.
